Expanding a battery system involves more than connecting additional modules. Age, cell condition, firmware, battery voltage, inverter, communication and manufacturer requirements must all be compatible. Kreuzer assesses existing systems and plans technically sound expansions in Mallorca.
Checks before an expansion
The first step is to confirm whether the existing battery can be expanded and which combinations are approved. With used modules or batteries of different ages, the actual condition is equally important.
- Manufacturer, model, generation and serial number
- Age, cycle count, fault history and cell differences
- Battery, BMS and inverter firmware
- Approved tower, string and communication structure
- Charge/discharge power, fuses and cables
- Available solar energy and actual additional demand
More storage or first more generation?
A larger battery only helps when enough energy is available to charge it. Consumption and generation data show whether additional battery capacity, more solar, another charge controller or a change in operating strategy will provide the greater benefit.
Safe commissioning
Depending on the system, new modules must be brought to a suitable state of charge, addressed correctly and commissioned in the specified sequence. Communication, operating limits, charging behaviour and monitoring are then checked.
